About the Event
Join us at SAMA Altoona on Friday, August 23rd from 12:00pm - 1:00pm to enjoy a private luncheon of salad and sandwiches accompanied by a riveting talk given by nationally recognized railroad and landscape artist, J. Craig Thorpe. Thorpe will discuss the release of his latest book “Railroads, Art, and American Life”, and present a talk on the relationship between transportation, culture, and how they connect us to our American life and communities. Artist J. Craig Thorpe has dedicated the last 30 years to producing railroad and landscape art that has been seen by millions of people nationwide, appearing in AMTRAK's marketing materials, National Park Service brochures, and museums throughout the country. This artist luncheon is provided as a supporting event in conjunction with the “We the People” exhibition which seeks to engage our communities in stimulating and reflective conversations about the nature of democracy and what it means to be civically engaged. “We the People” was supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation and The Antonia and Vladimir Kulaev Cultural Heritage Fund, Inc.
