About the Event

Join us at SAMA Altoona on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to hear two talks which resonate with the themes reflected in the "We the People" exhibition currently on display in the Paul I. Detwiler gallery. At 1:00 p.m., Harriet Gaston will speak on the trials and tribulations faced by the African American community in Blair County as they struggled to enshrine their civic rights in her talk entitled, "A Brief History of Civil Rights in Blair County." At 2:00 p.m., Dr. Jared Frederick will speak on the important role Altoona played during the Civil War and the stories that shaped both or nation and the city of Altoona in “Keystone of War.” This event is free to attend. Please consider making a donation at registration or upon arrival to help support this program and other programs offered by SAMA.
