About the Event

The plein air (open air) workshop is with local oil painter and award winning plein air artist, Heather Davis, on Saturday, May 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m. compliments the current exhibition Trees: An Appreciation of Nature. Cost to attend is $30 for members or $35 for non-members. Walkins are welcome but registration is encouraged.

This workshop is designed to help painters with many aspects of their painting knowledge such as increase confidence, improve live painting techniques, cope with weather conditions, learn special tips for limited time, learn compositional and overall approach, produce painting samples of their own with professional instruction The class is not about completing a single painting, but about sending artists out into the world prepared to do their very best with the tools and materials needed to create beautiful plein air works of art. Much of the class will be based on participant Q & A and individual attention. Recommended items for working in the field will be suggested and reviewed as you prepare your own personal set up during the workshop.

Materials of all varieties are welcome, so bring your paints or drawing materials of choice as well as some surfaces to test your ideas and techniques. Artists with all levels of experience can benefit. If you are an artist with some experience seeking specific training on working outside, this is a great workshop for you. If you are a true beginner, we recommend bringing the following supplies: one basic assorted color box of either acrylic, oils, or watercolors, a bottle of water (acrylic, watercolor) or paint thinner and medium (oils), several small canvas panels (or a tablet of watercolor paper with hard surface for mounting), a multipack of brushes (flat edged brushes are very helpful), rags and or paper towels, and a palette or palette paper.
