About the Event

Have you ever wanted to step into the room in a picture? Taste the fruit in a still life? Explore the scene in a landscape? Talk to the person looking out from a portrait? ome to SAMA Bedford for a hands-on workshop about writing inspired by art--Ekphrasis. We will practice using close observation and sensory description to imagine what is going on in paintings and photographs. Using these take-away tools, participants will begin a story or poem inspired by art in the Gallery.

Join award winning author Ellen Prentiss Campbell for a fun, interactive encounter with Art. Ellen Prentiss Campbell’s novel, The Bowl with Gold Seams, takes place at The Bedford Springs. Stories in her collections Known By Heart and Contents Under Pressure (cover image by Kevin Kutz) are set in Bedford County. Her new novel, Frieda’s Song, takes place in Rockville, Maryland, where she grew up. A retired psychotherapist, Ellen writes and lives in Washington, D.C. and Manns Choice.
