This year’s art camp will explore color theory weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This camp will delight students ages 6 – 12, as they learn a basic understanding of color theory and its applications. The cost for this camp is $175 per child, which includes all materials and snacks. Registration should be received no later than July 16th and includes a $25 non-refundable deposit. For registration or additional information, contact the Museum at altoona@sama-art.org or (814)-946-4464.
In addition to furthering an understanding of color, students will also study light and its effect on color through a variety of exercises and activities in the downtown Altoona museum as well as in the community during walks and excursions. This art camp will last ten days, and it will be largely contained within our downtown Altoona facility. Students will engage in collaborative group projects as well as individual activities to stimulate their creativity.
Local artist, Sarah Jubeck, will lead students through exercises in abstract painting, collage, marbling, the science of color theory, color wheels, and more. This art camp will coincide with an exhibition of work by local artists Tony Porter and Michael Allison, both of whom create colorful abstractions. Their work will fill the Detwiler Education Center, where the students will receive their instruction and participate in daily art exercises. Jubeck, owns and operates the Altoona business known as “Paint Party by Sarah”, where she offers art classes in canvas painting, ceramic painting, watercolor classes, foundations of art classes, and more. Jubeck has a BFA in painting and drawing. She has also developed curriculum for teaching art in various settings and with a diverse population.
