About the Event
If you have always wanted to learn how to draw realistic looking images, this contour drawing, shading and color theory class is for you! Karen will cover the basics of art to get you started drawing pencil drawings with the help of the textbook method “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards, which the students can access free online using this link or borrow copies during the class.
Supplies should be purchased by the student before the class. Materials will include a jet-black ebony or 2B or softer black pencil or black magic marker, gel pen, eraser and a large drawing tablet. A basic Crayola colored pencil set is required for the Wednesday classes, which is approximately $5. Some easels will be available to borrow, but students are encouraged to bring their own if possible. Paint sets are optional, but can be part of the curriculum if desired by the students. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
The first hour of class will be focused on contour drawing, and the second hour on shading on Mondays. Wednesday classes will focus on color theory and color mixing to apply as shading for Monday’s drawings and/or paintings. Proceeds benefit the Bedford Arts Festival.
