About the Event
Delight in this virtual foundations of painting - composition, brush and painting techniques, art history, and color theory - with artist Alex Hess. Hess, a Pittsburgh-based artist, takes you through weekly lessons designed to encourage your painting practice and share knowledge on the foundations of painting.

May 14th: Underpainting Process
How to quickly build up values using 1 color + White – The importance of the underpainting and how different artists preferred different grounds and ways of doing it. The benefits of the tones uniting to make a more complimentary finished painting.
May 21st: Palette
Mixing demo/ Creating Color strings – And how to accurately know how to achieve a targeted color – Mixing a series of different colors (Skin Tones, Nature, Fruit Etc…)
May 28th: Brushes
The difference between each and how certain ones help to provide certain characteristics within the painting (How to know which brush to use.)
