Artist-In-Residence

Creating artwork with a SAMA Teaching Artist in your school.

The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program connects students with professional artists in a mentor relationship, engaging them in the creative process. Core group sessions provide in-depth learning in specific art disciplines, while additional presentations reach the broader student body, teachers, arts organizations, and the surrounding community.

Artist-in-Residence packages include between a 5-day and 20-day school residency by a professional visual or performing artist, as well as the administration of scheduling, financial management, planning, and evaluation.

Participating schools must provide one to three core group(s) of no more than thirty students for the project, a single location for workspace, safe storage for art and equipment while on property, and acknowledgment of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Creative Industries in all publicity. â€‹Artist fees may vary. Please refer to the forms & applications below for detailed Museum fees.

Arts in Education Program

Arts-in-Education

Presentations from a SAMA Teaching Artist in your school.

Arts-In-Education (AIE) is an interdisciplinary program for K–12 students, featuring museum artworks brought directly into schools. Lessons emphasize creation, technique, history, critique, and aesthetics while encouraging students to create, analyze, and appreciate art. Topics include abstract art, photography, portraiture, sculpture, and more, connecting art to culture and history.

AIE packages include 20 to 25 art appreciation presentations for $775 standard fee. Additional sessions are available by the day at $50 per lesson or $200 per block of five lessons. Virtual options can be offered upon request and depend on artist availability. All SAMA education packages include an exhibition tour at the Museum of your choosing at no additional charge.

Participating schools must provide class schedules for the museum educator, single location for presentation, assistance in unloading and loading artwork (custodian or student), safe storage for art and equipment while on property, and acknowledgment of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in all publicity.

"Thank you for offering this fabulous program. Our students loved learning about clay and the opportunity to explore an art form not usually available to them!"
