Artist-In-Residence

Creating artwork with a SAMA Teaching Artist in your school.

The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program provides students with an opportunity to interact directly with professional artists in a student/mentor relationship with mutual involvement in the creative process. Presentations for core groups are designed to offer in-depth learning about particular artistic disciplines. Additional presentations are designed for the general student population, teachers, arts groups, and the community at large.

Watch how Bedford School District participated in their first residency with SAMA and Teaching Artist, Deb Bunnell. Students learned about pointillism and created a Bison mural, which reflects their school mascot.

Learning about art through presentations from a SAMA Teaching Artist in your school.

Arts-In-Education (AIE) is a series of integrated, interdisciplinary lessons designed for K-12th grade students. The presentations rely on direct observation of works of art from the Museum’s education collection, which are brought into the schools. AIE provides students with age appropriate lessons that emphasize creation, technique, history, critique, and aesthetics.

Opportunities are provided for students to create and respond to art, learn about the placement of art in culture and history, and make judgments about the quality of art. Lessons may include abstract/non-objective art, decorative arts, landscape, photography, portraiture, sculpture, still life, and more.

Want to know how this will impact schools? Watch how our AIE program affected students and teachers in our Arts-In-Education video.
