SAMA-ALTOONA EXHIBITION FEATURES TWO REGIONAL ARTISTS
Altoona –
The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at
Altoona is pleased to announce the opening of its latest
exhibition, From Individual to Universal: The Art of
Philip Brulia and Evgeny Krayushkin. The exhibition,
which features nearly forty works, opens June 29 in the
Museum’s George A. and Herbert T. Wolf Gallery and will
remain on view through August 18.
In this
exhibition, both artists offer a look at the universal and
the personal in their art. Brulia’s work is focused on
visual detail, with striking individual beauty coupled with
well-refined technique. Krayushkin is primarily focused on
the intellectual process and uses the technique, relief and
visuals for the purpose of conveying a thought and enhancing
the story.
Philip Brulia
was born in Huntingdon but moved to Altoona during his
childhood. He became interested in art early in his life,
and later studied it at the Ivy School of Professional Art
and Pennsylvania State University. His work has been
exhibited and won numerous awards throughout Pennsylvania.
The artist is a Signature Member of the Colored Pencil
Society of America.
Evgeny
Krayushkin, also known as ZheKa, has been writing, drawing,
painting and carving for more than two decades; for the past
eleven years, the artist has lived in Huntingdon. His most
recent and successful endeavor has been wood relief
carvings. From the Individual to the Personal marks
Krayushkin’s first major exhibition, outside of two regional
competitions.
“We are
thrilled to offer this exhibition to our patrons,” said SAMA-Altoona
Coordinator, Barbara Hollander. “To bring two artists
together is not only a meeting of their work, but also of
their passions and souls. This exhibition will please both
connoisseurs of art and those who do not consider themselves
particularly knowledgeable in the fine art field. I invite
everyone to come make ‘the journey’ as we enter into the
artists’ personal universe.”
The Museum
will celebrate the exhibition at a Blue Monday program on
July 9. The event begins at 6 p.m. and features light supper
and libations. Music will be provided by Tom McCarty with
Mountain City Grass. Cost is $20 per person. For
reservations, call the Museum at (814) 946-4464.
The artists
will speak at a Lunch a l’Art program at the Museum on
Thursday, July 26. The program begins at noon and includes
lunch and a presentation by the artists. Cost is $13 or $12
for SAMA members. Please call the Museum for reservations.

Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona is located in the Brett
