STATE-TOURING EXHIBITION COMPLETES ITS RUN
AT SAMA-LORETTO
Loretto—The Southern
Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto announces that the
exhibition Outside the Centers/On the Edge will
finish its statewide run in Loretto, beginning June 29. An
exhibition of 15 Pennsylvania artists, including
Hollidaysburg resident, Rebecca Strzelec, Outside the
Centers/On the Edge celebrates the strength and
innovation of artists living and working outside the state’s
major metropolitan areas. The exhibition will remain on view
through September 30.
Each artist takes an
unconventional approach to his or her work in materials,
content and form. Their works demonstrate that just because
the perspectives of these artists are influenced by their
more "remote" locales, they do not lack formal
sophistication or theoretical rigor.
Outside the Centers/On the
Edge has been touring the state
for a year and a half. It was organized by a consortium of
Pennsylvania museums and university galleries, with the
support of the Picture Pennsylvania Traveling Exhibition
program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The
exhibition was co-curated by their directors: Erie Art
Museum (John Vanco); Pennsylvania College of Art and Design
Gallery (Kristy Krivitsky); Samek Art Gallery, Bucknell
University (Dan Mills); Sharadin Art Gallery, Kutztown
University (Dan Talley); and Southern Alleghenies Museum of
Art (former director Michael Tomor).
The Southern Alleghenies
Museum of Art at Loretto is located on the campus of Saint
Francis University. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. weekends. The Museum
is open to the public free of charge. For more information,
call the Museum at (814) 472-3920 or visit www.sama-art.org.
