PRESCHOOL ART PROGRAM SCHEDULED AT SAMA
Altoona – The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art
at Altoona will hold a preschool art program on Thursday,
April 8. The program provides children and parents with an
opportunity to participate in art activities, including
visual, performing and literary arts. It is designed for
children ages 1 through 6, and children must be accompanied
by an adult. The program also provides children with an
opportunity to learn from professional visiting artists.
The program is offered twice a day, one Thursday
a month. Morning sessions are held from 10 to 11:30 a.m.,
with the afternoon programs scheduled for 1 to 2:30 p.m. The
program will begin with a brief tour of the exhibition on
view, and will be followed by a lesson and hands-on activity
with SAMA Fine Arts Education Curator Brian Sabo. After the
lesson and a snack break, children will perform an art
activity with the visiting artist. Cost is $5 per child.
The featured artist for April
is Ann Van Kuren. A dancer and choreographer, Van Kuren is a
residency artist with SAMA and the Pennsylvania Council on
the Arts.
Upcoming programs at the
Altoona Museum are scheduled for May 13, June 17 and August
5. The Museum’s preschool art program is made possible
through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
Arts Learning for Children and Youth grant. For more
information, or to sign up, please call the Museum at (814)
946-4464.
