Jack Barnosky captures memories of his Eastern Pennsylvania childhood in photography of coal strip mining sites.  Stylistically, Barnosky's work reflects both Documentary and Straight Photography.  He uses the camera as an instrument of reform, telling the story of people's lives in photodocumentary essays.  He documents landscapes, laborers and immigrants, and artifacts and impressions of American industry.

Barnosky received a B.A. in photography from Brooks Institute and an M.F.A. from Indiana University's School of Fine Arts.  He has taught at Martin University and Ivy Tech College in Indianapolis and currently teaches at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.  Barnosky's photographs are in the collections of Georgia's Columbus Museum, Houston's Museum of Fine Arts, California's Long Beach Museum of Art, and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
