Southern Alleghenies

Museum of Art

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art is open to the public free of charge as a result of our annual Garden Party, Gala, and Art of Style fundraisers.  These fundraisers traditionally provide the institution with enough money to continue to offer access to our four museum facilities in Altoona, Johnstown, Loretto, and Ligonier Valley without an admission fee.  The events are also “Friend Raisers,” providing us with a vehicle for corporate and individual membership development, exhibition and education program awareness, and building new audiences throughout our six county service region.   

Through these fundraisers, the Museum raises unrestricted dollars through corporate donations and underwriting marketing initiatives, the selling of objects donated to the live and silent auctions, and the admission fee to the event.  Each year over 200 volunteers dedicate themselves to these events, along with more than 750 paying guests in attendance. Over the last three decades, the Gala has evolved into one of the largest and most successful outdoor parties in Western Pennsylvania. The proceeds from the event enable the four Museum facilities in Altoona, Johnstown, Ligonier Valley and Loretto to remain open to the public free of charge and help to underwrite the Museum’s world-class exhibitions and innovative Arts-in-Education programs. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona fundraiser, The Art of Wine and Fashion, is an annual benefit designed to bring the community together to celebrate the arts, support our education mission, and raise awareness of our exhibition programs at the Altoona Museum and in Blair County. Support of The Art of Wine and Fashion allows the Museum to remain open to the public free of charge, six days a week, throughout the calendar year. By attending the event, guests also help us raise funds to maintain our Altoona facility and support our Museum/School Partnership programs in our region.

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley is supported in part through the annual Garden Party fundraiser.  The generosity of the community at this event has provided funds that help us maintain four 400-square-foot flower gardens that surround this facility, as well as allow our facilities to remain open to the public free of charge, year-round.
