Artists of the 21st Century is an exhibition of student artwork completed by students in grades Kindergarten through twelve who are

enrolled in school districts that participate in the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Artist-in-Residence Program. Over 300 creations are put on display, representing over 600 students. This program is supported by a grant from the PA Council on the Arts and is a great opportunity for students to show off their ability in a museum setting.

Any teacher who would like to submit lesson plans to escort student work, which was on display, can e-mail, fax, or mail them to:

Guests of the Museum are can survey student work that reveals many kinds of different drawings and drawing instruments. Student work also exposes great ways to create with pencil, chalk, crayon, stencils, textures, pastels, and more.

While many of the students who take part in the student exhibition love drawing and two-dimensional design, there are also many samples of student work “in the round.” Three-dimensional works on exhibit demonstrate a range of materials used for student sculpture, assemblage, carving, casting, and modeling.

Whatever medium; clay, acrylic, inks or oils the Artists of the 21st Century exhibition provides accommodation. In the same way, techniques new and imitative of traditional artists, are applied for examination by every visitor during the exhibition.
