Edwin Zoller was an American Scene painter who turned to abstract art later in his career.  Drawn to Pennsylvania’s industrial landscape, he portrayed the state’s steel mills and coal mines as well as surrounding towns.  Main Street, Towanda, is a typical example of Zoller’s earlier work, and depicts a colorful view of the small industrial city near Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Pittsburgh, Zoller taught for many years in the Pennsylvania State University system.  He participated in numerous exhibitions in the United States and abroad, and in 1965 he was appointed to the Governor’s Council on the Arts.  Zoller died in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, in 1967.
